4 tips for making a Commuter Backup Plan
Trying new ways of getting around means making adjustments, but it doesn't have to mean getting stuck. Here are four of our favorite tips for ensuring that you always get to where you're going with the least amount of stress.
1.) Sign up for Guaranteed Ride Home
With the FREE Guaranteed Ride Home program, you'll never be without an immediate form of transportation in the case of an emergency or scheduling conflict. All commuters who ride the bus, carpool, vanpool, bike or walk at least three days a week to work or school are eligible.
Participants receive two coupons every six months valued up to $25.00 each. The coupons are valid on any regular workday for a bus ride or cab ride reimbursement in the event of an emergency or schedule conflict.

2.) Learn how to plan a transit trip on the fly
Keep this number handy: 612-373-3333. The Transit Information Center can give you step by step directions weekdays from 6:30 am to 9 pm and on weekends and holidays from 8 am to 5 pm.
Another option when you call is to use NexTrip, where you can get real time scheduling information 24 hours a day. To make the most of NexTrip, you'll need to know your route number and cross streets.

3.) Learn how to take your bike on transit
When weather strikes or when you're too tired to ride, put your bike on any Metro Transit bus or train for part of your trip. Want to practice putting your bike on the bus? Come by our office in downtown St. Paul and try our demo rack.

Pay only for what you need! HOURCAR is a non-profit car-sharing service for the Twin Cities. By paying a nominal monthly membership fee you get 24 hour access to cars located all around the metro area.
