Next Stop, Fort Snelling!

May 29 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Fort Snelling,
200 Tower Avenue
St Paul, MN 55111 United States
+ Google Map

Never tried riding the bus with kids before? (They love it!). Haven’t been to historic Fort Snelling in a long time? Here’s your chance for both. Join Sierra Club members on a family-friendly Memorial Day outing by bus to the Fort. We’ll start our celebrating first with a free ride on the new, extended route # 7, and then continue with a visit to the Fort. May 29 is the official launch day for the extended bus route, which now makes a visit to the historic Fort and adjacent state park very doable by transit. Check out the many Fort activities on the gala opening weekend and download free metro transit passes. Note that you need one pass per paying age rider (can be on your phone) and that there is a charge at the Fort for adults and children over 5.

Outing Details:

Where and when: Group departure from 27th Ave. and 24th St. , just west of Matthews Park. Meet on the street side of the tennis courts at 9:10 am. The bus arrives at 9:24 kitty corner across the street.

What: Bus ride of about ½ hour; Fort visit, and small trail walk around the area if desired.

How long: We’ll plan to return on the 11:42 or 12:12 bus, though participants can choose to stay less time or longer.

Contacts: For outing details call Deb Alper at 651-604-7265; for questions about taking kids and strollers on the bus call Becky Alper at 651-200-9311.

Come out, enjoy the ride (kids always do), and the activities at the Fort… and don’t forget snacks or lunch, and water. RSVP today!

A brief training and free pizza will be provided. You will be calling our supporter lists and connecting people with their elected officials. These phone banks are designed to be as easy as possible, with an auto-dialer and patch-through messages.

This is a simple way to spend a couple of hours making a difference. If you can help, please sign up to volunteer on the Transportation Forward website or contact Andrea Kiepe, Lead Organizer, at 651-789-1406 or andreak@tlcminnesota.org.

City Council Public Hearing

June 7 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

There are two important biking items on the agenda at the St. Paul City Council's June 7 public hearing. We encourage you to attend and to speak up to support biking options in our city. The meeting will take place in the City Council Chambers on the 3rd Floor of City Hall.
Final testimony on revised plans for Pelham Bikeway
As a component of the Saint Paul Grand Round, the City of St. Paul is planning to implement protected bike lanes and other bikeway improvements along portions of Pelham Boulevard, Myrtle Avenue, and Raymond Avenue. The improvements are intended to calm traffic and improve safety and comfort for people bicycling and walking.

In response to concerns about vehicle parking, City staff have recently updated the project design. They now recommend that Myrtle Avenue become a one-way westbound street for motorists, while still allowing two-way traffic for bicycles in the designated bike lanes. This change preserves 21 on-street parking spaces previously proposed to be removed.

The Pelham Bikeway project needs your support on June 7! Attend and provide testimony before the City Council votes on this project. If you cannot attend the public hearing, you can email comments to ward4@ci.stpaul.mn.us to have them included in the public record.
Updates to the Saint Paul Bicycle Plan
The City is proposing updates to the Saint Paul Bicycle Plan to reflect input from two major planning efforts that clarified and added specificity to recommendations for the Saint Paul Grand Round and Capital City Bikeway. We encourage you to thank your city councilmembers for continued implementation of the Bike Plan.
