St. Paul
Transportation Summit a success!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our first annual Transportation
Summit. Our varied partners and presenters generated a lot of good questions
and discussion that spilled over into the networking time.
"I especially enjoyed the variety in presentations and the
testimonies from those who have applied TDM efforts and
succeeded!"
-Transportation Summit
attendee
Watch, view and listen: We've posted video and photos of the event so you can check out anything
you missed or want to hear again.

Good
news: MN got $600M in stimulus money
Bad news: Most of it is funding highway expansion
Mn/DOT and the Metropolitan Council
are considering a plan that would spend the minimum required on transit
and pedestrian projects, and spend the majority of the metro area
money, $220 million or more, on two highway expansion projects (TH610
and a new I-494/TH169 Interchange).
Whatever the pros and cons of these highway projects, the region should
not neglect the importance of improving sidewalks, intersections,
signals, and other pedestrian and transit facilities to meet the travel
needs of all citizens, including elderly and people with disabilities.
Now is the time to invest in the mobility and independence of all
Minnesota travelers.
What you can do: Contact Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) members before April
15 and let them know you support funding transit, pedestrian and
transportation projects over highway expansion.

to make shortcuts for your most common trips.
For your daily trips

Here's how: If you've ever planned a trip using the planner,
you're already an expert! If not, what are you waiting for? Start by planning a trip and then click the "customize
my trip planner" link on the upper right corner of the results
page.
For your organization
Difficulty level: Medium

easily using transit. Add this tool to your website to automatically
use your location as the destination or starting point.
We added a customized Trip Planner to our website, allowing visitors to plan their

St. Paul
first in Minnesota to adopt Complete Streets
Last
month the St. Paul City Council unanimously adopted a resolution for a
Complete Streets policy making us first in the state!
The policy, which was introduced by Councilmember Russ Stark (Ward 4),
will help to ensure that streets in St. Paul are designed and built for
safe movement and crossing by users of all ages, abilities and modes
(including biking, walking and transit).
Timing: The resolution requested that the Planning Commission
create guidelines for implementing Complete Streets in St. Paul by
January 1, 2010.
