St. Paul
Set to Get Our First "Bike Walk Street"

As part of the federally-funded Bike Walk Twin Cities initiative, St.
Paul is set to receive funding to create the "Highland Parkway
Bicycle Boulevard." The 3.5 mile project would create a "bike walk street" connecting St. Paul to
Minneapolis via the Ford Bridge. Bike walk streets accommodate auto
travel but give priority to cyclists and pedestrians, increasing the
livability our city and providing safe alternatives to driving.
Learn more: Bike walk streets are one example of a concept
know as "Complete Streets." Educate yourself with this 2 page overview (pdf).
Attend a meeting: The Highland District Council is hosting a meeting
on August 11 at 7pm to discuss the proposed bike
boulevard. City officials will be there to listen and answer questions. |
Commuter
Challenge Wrap Up
More
than 15,000 people and 248 organizations took the Commuter Challenge
from April 1 - June 30, and are driving less!
Congratulations go to Norman Aaseng from Minnesota DNR, Karen Marano
from the MN Historical Society and Dana Ojemolon from St. Joseph
Hospital who all won top prizes!
New to the challenge this year was the first ever Commuter Challenge
team competition in which over 40 groups took part.
One such group, The Sprinters, logged 7,270 miles from
Northfield to St. Paul in a vanpool and landed themselves 2nd place in
the "Most Miles Traveled Using an Alternative Transportation
Option" category. Congratulations to everyone who participated!
