In support of a state-wide Complete Streets policy

On February 4th the 2010 state legislative session will begin and we'll be advocating for the passage of a state-wide Complete Streets policy through our membership in the forty-member
Minnesota Complete Streets Coalition.
If passed, such a policy would prescribe that all users of our
streets be considered during the design or re-design of roadways. A similar policy is in the works at the local level for the City of Saint Paul.
In
November of last year, St. Paul Smart Trips signed on in support of a
draft Complete Streets report from Mn/DOT.

Winter bicycle counts - our digits are cold!

On three chilly days in December and January, St. Paul Smart Trips volunteers counted bicycle and pedestrian traffic at various locations around St. Paul.
The counts are being conducted as part of the Non-Motorized Pilot Program that Bike Walk Twin Cities is conducting to get more people biking and waking for transportation more often.
Measuring non-motorized traffic is important for the region because it helps to inform planners and decision makers
about the need to provide for pedestrians and bicyclists in all
transportation projects.
Since we began in July of last year, over 20 shifts have been filled by St.
Paul Smart Trips volunteers (thanks!).
Counts are typically done the second Tuesday of the month, and last for two hours. Consider volunteering and help bicyclists and pedestrians be counted!
