Snelling bike/ped safety project in jeopardy
From 2004 to 2007, there were 100 accidents / crashes on Snelling Avenue between St. Clair and Grand Avenues. Tom Welna, from Macalester College, is calling for immediate action to support a median construction project that would improve bicycle and pedestrian safety along Snelling Avenue between
Grand Avenue and St. Clair.
The project would improve safety in two key ways:
1) Allow pedestrians to deal with one direction of traffic at a time by creating a break in the middle of the street
2) "Calm" traffic flow by narrowing the street and causing motorists to observe the 30mph speed limit
Take action: Read Tom's letter (pdf) and then call or e-mail Councilmember Pat Harris by Tuesday, May 12th. Urge him to allow a resolution to accept the $1mil that has been raised and to finalize the plan to be introduced to the City Council.
