Rideshare to Work Week winners announced

Rideshare to Work Week took place this year from October 6 to October 10 and hundreds of you participated in cutting your gas costs in half and reducing your parking expense, cars on the road and exhaust going into the air

We drew three winners for our $100 gas card giveaways. Congratulations to Krista Struve from
Lawson, Tamara Ybarra from MN Dept. of Human Rights and Sandi Wintz!

Want to encourage more r
idesharing at your workplace?

To help the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the MnDNR  reduce their workforce's pollution contribution we developed a wall-sized map showing all the people in the Rideshare system that are sharing or looking for rides to St. Paul. View the map (pdf)

Biking and walking up 33% in Summit-U neighborhood

As high gas prices across the region this summer caused people to curb their driving, the residents of Summit-University responded to the pain at the pump by walking and biking at a higher rate than their neighbors for fitness and their work, school and shopping trips.

It's no coincidence that at this same time we were targeting the neighborhood with our "Smart Trips Summit-U" program. On average three households per block participated in the program, which brought events, classes and individualized information to people's doorsteps.

Walking map of downtown St. Paul

The Rotary Club of Saint Paul has produced a beautiful full-color self-guided walking map of downtown St. Paul. "Uniquely Saint Paul" highlights the city's unique history and culture, with a focus on how the Mississippi River has shaped this twenty-first century river city.

Before it gets any colder, grab a hot beverage and head out on foot to stroll the fascinating loop that begins and ends at the Landmark Center in downtown.

Number of bicycle instructors in Minnesota triples!

Photo: Mary Jackson, MnDot

Last month twenty-five new cycling instructors became certified to teach bicycling skills, maintenance and safety. Prior to the training, there were only nine such instructors in Minnesota.

The certification was awarded by the League of American Bicyclists who were brought in by the Bike Walk Ambassador program in conjunction with Transit for Livable Communities to increase the capacity of bicycle education in the Twin Cities.

The new instructors will be teaching
Traffic Skills 101 and other classes to both novice and avid cyclists in the area as part of the Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Program (NTP), a federal source of funding that was created to increase rates of bicycling and walking, and to reduce rates of driving.
